This pick, in my opinion, is a sign of the change of times in D.C. In the past with a 10th overall pick they would of chosen a QB or a flashy Wide Receiver. Honestly, they need both of those things....but this pick is not a most talented guy around, but he makes up for it in intensity and enthusiasm for the game. They even traded down from the 10th to 16th and acquired a second pick from Miami in the process. That I like. He will instantly make their defense better. How you ask? Teams can no longer double team Brian Orakpo. They have two talented pass rushers and I really hope they decide to send either Orakpo or Kerrigan after the QB on EVERY down while the other goes into coverage. Trick up the offensive line. Who are you going to try to double team now?
Bottom Line: The Skins Defense just got a whole lot better and more suited for a 3-4 even though there are concerns about Kerrigan not being "big enough" for the position. I personally doubt it'll be a problem. He won't be a bust, but he also might not be a superstar. I can live with just consistency.
Fun Side Note: He is the Big Tens All Time leader in Forced Fumbles. His Career total of 14 puts him in a 4 way tie for the most in FBS history.
