A new Redskins QB wrinkle....

I got to thinking today.  Instead of the Skins drafting a QB what if they try to sign the Packer's back-up QB Matt Flynn?  Then they could continue to stockpile picks and draft more tools to help the team and not focus on drafting a QB in the first round.  The two studs of the draft will more than likely be off the board unless they attempt to trade up in the draft.  They have NO shot at getting Andrew Luck now, Colts are taking him 1 overall its a lock, they would have to trade up for RG3.

If they sign Flynn they wouldn't have to trade up at all.  They could take some more weapons on offense and some more blocking for the QB.  I still think they will try to trade up and take Robert Griffin the 3rd.  Just wondering about the possibilities that exist out there.....

Redskins Pick Ryan Kerrigan

This pick, in my opinion, is a sign of the change of times in D.C.  In the past with a 10th overall pick they would of chosen a QB or a flashy Wide Receiver.  Honestly, they need both of those things....but this pick is not a most talented guy around, but he makes up for it in intensity and enthusiasm for the game.  They even traded down from the 10th to 16th and acquired a second pick from Miami in the process.  That I like.  He will instantly make their defense better.  How you ask?  Teams can no longer double team Brian Orakpo.  They have two talented pass rushers and I really hope they decide to send either Orakpo or Kerrigan after the QB on EVERY down while the other goes into coverage.  Trick up the offensive line.  Who are you going to try to double team now?

Bottom Line:  The Skins Defense just got a whole lot better and more suited for a 3-4 even though there are concerns about Kerrigan not being "big enough" for the position.  I personally doubt it'll be a problem.  He won't be a bust, but he also might not be a superstar.  I can live with just consistency.

Fun Side Note:  He is the Big Tens All Time leader in Forced Fumbles.  His Career total of 14 puts him in a 4 way tie for the most in FBS history.
